COMMONWEALTH GAMES - MANCHESTER 2002

AUDIO FROM '1994 COMMONWEALTH GAMES IN VICTORIA

REPORT FROM VICTORIA 1994 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

In 1994, I had the great pleasure of attending the 15th Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I had won a bursary from the Commonwealth Relations Trust to attend the Games, in the hope that if Manchester ever won the Games that I would have some idea of what to expect.

I attended as much of the actual Sport as possible and filed reports back to The BAY 96.9 back in Lancaster in the UK. But I was also able to speak to the Victoria public to get a sense of what Manchester could expect.

JOHN KANI

John Kani is a world renound South African actor who performed 'The Island' at the Lowry Theatre in Salford during the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.

I had the great pleasure of interviewing him along with Winston Ntshona, backstage at the Theatre. It was a wonderful interview and both men spoke very movingly about their lives in South Africa and about their acting careers. This, in my humble opinion, is one of the most moving parts of a truly wonderful interview:-

SIR BOB SCOTT PICTURED AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES IN VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA IN 1994

SIR BOB SCOTT

Sir Bob Scott is the man who was, almost singlehandedly, responsible for bringing the Commonwealth Games to Manchester. He had been the driving force behind Manchester's two failed Olympic bids. Following his second failure, he decided to turn his attention to the Commonwealth Games. On the day after the Closing Ceremony, we had the great pleasure of speaking to him on Commonwealth Games Radio:-
