SHEFFIELD SHARKS BLOG - IT'S STILL ALL GOOD

Well what a start we have had to the 9/10 BBL season.  As I write the Sharks are at the top of the BBL with a 4 and 1 record, and on a 4 game winning streak.

But my statement about the start we’ve had is not just about the Sharks, I am talking about the start that the BBL as a whole, has had to the new season.

Having seen a few more games and teams, I am convinced that we are in very good shape.

Yes a couple of teams have had a slow start but I believe even they will get it together.  Plymouth Raiders are 0 and 2, London Capital and 0 and 3 while the Worcester Wolves are 0 and 4.  I wish them good fortune…soon.

Last Sunday afternoon was a fabulous event as the Everton Tigers entertained the unbeaten Guildford Heat at the Echo Arena.  Yes it was a great game and a fantastic result for the home team.  But what was most pleasing for me was the excellent crowd, the great entertainment and the sensational atmosphere.

The Tigers picked up their first win whilst handing the Heat their first loss, but in my opinion, British Basketball was the real winner.

For years I have known that basketball is one of the greatest sports out there, not only when played at the very top level such as the NBA but, I believe, when played at every level.

Tonight I will get to see another BBL team for the first time this season.  The Glasgow Rocks (formerly the Scottish Rocks), have had a solid 2 and 2 start to the season and include in their line-up a number of ex Sharks players.

We welcome back former Sharks legends, Rob Yanders and player coach Sterling Davis.  Also in the line-up is Steve Parillon another former Shark who spent some time here at the EISS.

We also welcome to the EISS new signings Jessie Sapp and Mike Copeland and of course there is Scottish stalwart Gareth Murray.

For me the BBL Championship is looking really interesting at the moment with the Sharks on top, followed by the Newcastle Eagles, Leicester Riders and Cheshire Jets.  Tonight’s opponents the Rocks are in 7th place having played 4 games.

It would seem that in nearly every team in the BBL there are a couple of free scorers who are putting up truly big numbers.  This make for great games of basketball and real excitement for the fans.

As you may know, on mikeshaft.com, we announce a number of awards at the end of the season and I have already seen a number of players who I think will be featuring in those awards.

It’s early days yet, but I have to say…I am loving what I am seeing so far.
