Let me be the first to say it…I am loving the BBL this season. The thing I like most is the fact that everybody can beat everybody else and that is making for some great competition every time BBL teams go up against each other.
I will give you an example, Last Friday night the Sharks were on the road to the Milton Keynes Lions and as usual when I can’t get to the game, I was following it on ‘What’s Bev’. By the way I must take a moment to thank Statboy Luke and the Eagles’ guys who always manage to post scores of their games and others that they go to.
So it is looking like a Sharks win when suddenly it all changes and the Lions are back in it, next we are tied as regulation expires and we are into overtime. In over time the Sharks get off to a good start only for the Lions to work their way back into it and it is overtime number 2.
From what I could see on ‘What’s Bev’, this overtime period was all about the Lions who would run out winners 98-89. Congratulations to Vince and his guys who have got off to a fantastic 6 and 2 start to the season and as I write they are second in the BBL to the Newcastle Eagles who were making news of their own last weekend.
Fab Flournoy and his guys had the long trip to Plymouth Raiders who were still looking for their first win of the season. The word is the Fab broke a finger in training on Saturday morning just hours before the team was about to depart.
Eventually the bus left Newcastle without the Eagles inspirational coach. In the end this game would go to one period of overtime and the Raiders would pick up their first win and the Eagles would go to ‘and 2’.
The top three teams in the BBL are all tied with 6 victories although the Sharks have 3 losses compared to the 2 losses of the Eagles and the Lions. The Jets and the Heat are next, in positions 4 and 5 with records of 5 and 2.
There were more surprising results elsewhere last weekend as well. The Leicester Riders whupped the Guildford Heat 95-77 at home on Saturday night only to make the trip to the Worcester Wolves, then go down to defeat by a scoreline of 113-111.
Boy that must have been a real run & gun affair.
And finally also on Sunday, the Guildford Heat would get the better of the Worthing Thunder by a scoreline of 78-71.
At the moment I think it is pure folly to try and guess the outcome of BBL games and I have to tell you, this is exactly how it should be.
Tonight we welcome the Cheshire Jets back to the EISS for another BBL encounter. I saw the Jets defeat the Tigers in an absolute cracker recently and I think everyone knows just how tough they can be.
Tonight’s game should be another unpredictable affair as the Jets are also off to an excellent 5 and 2 start to the season. My advice is simply to sit back and enjoy the game. Support your team and let’s hope the better team on the night actually win the game
